Clinics

Services led by our Practice Nurses include:

  • Taking blood for tests
  • Infant and adult immunisations
  • Dressings and removal of stitches

  • Well woman clinics – Cervical smears and HRT

  • Clinics to monitor blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, chronic heart disease and chronic obstructive airways disease

Ultrasound

You might be referred to either Dr Tyrrell or Dr Knight who do ultrasound scanning by appointment. Both doctors attend continuing training and appraisal.

South West Surrey Mobile Physiotherapy provide a service at the surgery (a doctor must refer you).

Chiropody

At Shere we have a clinic for NHS chiropody for our eligible patients over 65. A private service is also available. Please contact reception for details.

Blood Tests

These can be done at 'walk in' clinics held weekday mornings (except Thursday) between 8.30 and 9.10am.

SALV Mental Health Project

This is a consultant-led advisory service which offers a clinical psychologist treatment and cognitive behavioural therapy; your doctor can refer you. The service is funded by the charitable trust.

Counsellors

Private CBT is available with Geoffrey Talbot MA (Oxon), Dip CACP (London), MBACP.

We have other counsellors that see clients at Shere Surgery but you will need to be referred by a doctor.

Minor Surgery

Various problems can be treated without going to hospital. Your doctor may therefore refer you to an in-house clinic where you will be treated by either Dr Tyrell or Dr Harvey.

Non-NHS Services

The doctors are happy to carry out non-NHS work. Such services incur a fee so please ask reception about the recommended price.

Practice General Information

RESULTS

Please telephone the surgery after 12 midday 5 days following a blood test to receive the results. If you would like us to supply the results to somebody else on your behalf we will need written consent from you.

PRACTICE CONTACTING PATIENTS

It is important to note that should we need to contact you by telephone we may leave a short message on your answer phone asking you to contact us. If this is not acceptable please let us know. It is useful for us to have a mobile number to contact you on particularly as we can send text messages to remind you of your appointment.

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

Shere Surgery conforms to the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and has produced a publication scheme in accordance with the Act a copy of which is available from www.foi.nhs.uk

INTERPRETERS

Both language interpreters and interpreters for the deaf are available, as the arrangements can take a little time to set up appointments requiring an interpreter must be booked in advance.

COMPUTERS

Only the Doctors, Nurses and reception staff employed by the practice can access your medical records held on our computer system. The Practice is registered under the Data Protection Act.

RELEASING PATIENT INFORMATION

The only times a Doctor can release information without patient consent are when the patient is:- Profoundly mentally ill, Is at risk of death/serious harm, Suffering from a serious infection that could spread to the public, Placing others at risk of death/serious harm

YOUNG PEOPLE

If a child younger than 16 years is fully competent to understand and make informed consent regarding their own health problems, information about that child’s medical health or history may not be released to a parent, legal guardian or teacher.

REPORTS FOR THIRD PARTIES

Doctors reports for Insurance Companies, Solicitors and Employers are never provided without your written consent.

MEDICAL RECORDS AND ACCESS

Patients have a right to see their medical records with permission from their Doctor, you would need to submit a written request. There is a set fee of £10 and an appointment may be necessary.

CONCERN ABOUT A RELATIVE, FRIEND OR NEIGHBOUR

If you have concerns and can not persuade that person to speak to a Doctor you can telephone or write to the Doctor on their behalf. The Doctor is unable to give information but may be able to act in view of what you have said. CCTV Is operating in the car park and around the building.

CARERS

If you are a carer (that is a person who provides regular unpaid help) for family members, friends or neighbours who are sick or disabled, then the surgery has a service to support you. For more information please ask at reception.

NHS CHOICES

If you are referred for specialist care at the hospital you may choose which hospital you would like to be treated at. Please make your Doctor aware of your preference. There is further information about the choices you have with your care through NHS choices (www.nhs.uk).

RESEARCH

From time to time the practice contributes anonymous data to various medical research projects. No identifiable patient data will ever be used without your explicit consent.

SICKNESS CERTIFICATES

For any illness lasting seven days or less you can self certificate (forms available at reception). For any illness lasting longer than this you will need to see a Doctor to obtain a sickness certificate and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate.

LEAVING THE COUNTRY

If you go abroad for more than 3 months you should return your NHS card to the practice and re register on your return to the area.

SHERE AND LOCAL VILLAGES HEALTH TRUST (SALV)

SALV is a charitable organisation that provides equipment and other support to help local Doctors and other medical staff. If you would like further information there are leaflets.
