The Practice Staff
Practice Manager
Cathryn Bovingdon is the practice manager and is responsible for the overall management of the practice.
She would be happy to hear your views and suggestions about the service offered by the practice.
Practice Nurses
• Louise Main
• Alison Bytheway
• Sarah Ball
Our team of practice nurses have daily surgeries and clinics. Each nurse has special services that they
provide so you may need to make an appointment at a specific time depending on your requirement.
They also assist the doctors in minor surgery and are available to offer professional advice over the
telephone between 12 noon and 1.00pm.
Reception Staff
The staff at reception will assist you when making routine and emergency appointments. They answer numerous and varied questions and offer help and understanding at all times. Our Reception staff are highly trustworthy and professional people. They take responsibility for confidentiality very seriously. They are not allowed to discuss any patient information outside of work. The receptionist may ask you questions when you make an appointment, they are not being deliberately intrusive, they need to direct you to an appropriate member of staff for the care you need.
Community Staff
District Nurses - Tel: 01483 203110
The district nursing team play a major role in the management of patients at home. Referrals may be
accepted from GPs, fellow professionals, friends and relatives. Each patient’s needs are assessed and their
care/treatment is planned accordingly and often delegated to other agencies.
Health Visitors - Tel: 01483 203595
The health visitors are trained nurses who work with all age groups. They offer appointments at home and in
the surgery as necessary.
Their particular role is in health education, assessing the development and health of babies and young
children, behavioural problems, parenting and immunisations.
Community Midwife Tel: 01483 464134
(Shere Ward)
The midwife runs an antenatal clinic and advises on all aspects of pregnancy, the delivery and the postnatal
period.
General Practitioner Registrars And Students
Our practice is a training/teaching practice. Our registrars are fully qualified and have a great deal of
hospital experience. Registrars are attached to our practice for at least 12 months and patients find their fresh,
enthusiastic approach adds to the health care we provide. They always have a partner available for advice when
required. In order to maintain its training status, the practice is inspected on a regular basis to ensure the
highest standards are upheld.
We are also fortunate to have medical students attached to our practice for short periods. With the
patient’s consent they may consult with the partner to learn about general practice.
Doctors' Availability
We do not run personal lists at Shere Surgery. Any of our doctors would be pleased to see you, and you may see whoever you prefer. Between
them they cover a broad spectrum of specialist expertise. They consult at varying times, which can be subject
to change due to professional commitments.
Much more of what we call ‘routine’ care, e.g. blood pressure checks and health advice, is now carried out by the Practice Nurse team. If you are unsure whether you need a Doctor or Nurse appointment please ask the receptionist.
